A Ride on the Wind
Words by Araya
I took a ride on the wind one day
to see what I could learn.
I asked what he could teach me
and I felt his being turn.
He looked at me with a big, broad smile…
a toothless, ear-to-ear grin,
then motioned towards his shoulder
and replied, “Come on, let’s take a spin.”
“I can teach you all about freedom,
the joy of each new day,
to listen to your heart,
and hear what it has to say.
For you see from day to day
I never know which way I’ll blow.
Some days I am the tradewinds.
Some days I carry snow.
In the stillness of the morning,
I sit in silence and meditate.
I feel the sun on the horizon,
then begin to levitate.
It’s then I listen with my whole being
to see just what feels right…
to keep me busy and on track
for the next new day and night.
I may blow strong and fierce,
breaking limbs off the tall, strong oak.
I may blow soft and gentle,
russling the boughs of the willow’s cloak.
Different directions for each mood…
whatever speed seems to suit my fancy…
creating art in waves upon the ocean…
setting crisp fall leaves to dancing.
Creativity is my game.
I never know where it will lead.
I connect to it by going within,
for that’s where Spirit plants the seed.
I have only to rise each day
and listen carefully to my heart,
then muster all my energy
and know I’m doing my part.
We’re all a team you see…
every being on this great earth.
And we all have a role to play
from the moment of our birth.”
As he slowed and set me down,
he smiled again and said,
“This is what I can teach you,
to live from your heart and not your head.”
